Wellington Disc Sports would like to announce the selection of Adele Gibson and Jane Keane as co-coaches for Artemis. They will be running trainings and selecting a team to represent Wellington at the WaM tournament in Auckland.
Trainings will be held on Sundays from 3-6 pm at Boyd Wilson Field, at Victoria University of Wellington's Kelburn Campus. VUWFDC has secured these fields. To help cover the costs of the fields they are charging $20 per person for the entire training period leading up to WaM.
Trainings start Sunday, 29 January 2012.
For more details about trainings contact Adele or Jane at: adelegibson@yahoo.com. Adele's cell phone number is 021 0235 8299 and Jane’s is 021 121 2101
Action has been taken to ban a player from all WDS events. Please read this letter from the President for more details.
The Wellington Disc Sports Exec is looking for people to coordinate practises and team formation leading up to the Women's and Men's Nationals. We are looking for two squad managers to look after men's and women's respectively. We envisage that the managers will lead the training sessions, but they could alternatively delegate coaching responsibilities. There is field space available on Sundays, at Boyd-Wilson field at Victoria University. The Vic squads will be training at the same time, but games between the WDS squad and the Vic squad and combined training sessions may be an option that could be discussed between the coaches. The Vic Club will be charging non Vic players $20 for the entire period, so $20 for about 10 x 3 hour training session, equaling about $2 per week.
The main aim is to develop high level ultimate in Wellington and put Wellington's best foot forward at Nationals, this year and moving forward.
Aspects of this would include:
• incorporating as wide a base of Wellington ultimate as possible
• run open trainings throughout until WaM for anyone who wants to improve their skills and play at a high level
• form representative teams in each division (Men's and women's)
• ideally top teams will be formed in each division, but more importantly space on teams should be found for anyone who commits to the programme
• foster positive team environments
• win both divisions of WaM!
Wellington Disc Sports will:
• provide training space and resources (discs/cones etc)
• recognise teams, coaches and players as Wellington representatives in Ultimate
• investigate funding options
The Convenors will:
• ensure coached trainings take place on a weekly basis
• delegate responsibilities as required (coaching, logistics etc)
• have overall responsibility for the success of the programme
The ideal candidates will:
• relate well to players of varying levels of development
• have a proven record of organising campaigns
• ideally have solid coaching experience

In June there was a special convening of the Wellington Disc Sports Executive to discuss the development of a strategy plan for the Wellington community. The resulting strategic statement resulting from this session was as follows:
• To grow and develop the skills, players, spirit and awareness of the Wellington Disc Sports Community.
• To provide opportunities to beginner through to elite players in Wellington to play disc sports in a spirited environment.

At the beginning of October the two NZ U19 teams faced off against the Australian U19 in the first ever Trans-Tasman U19s Championship. The players have spent the last six months training hard and it was exciting to see each team come together to represent their country in an exciting three game series.
Both teams coped with the wet and windy conditions admirably with some games going to universe point.
Kahu, the NZ U19 girls, and Katipo, the NZ U19 boys, both put on an impressive show and each team took the series in a clean sweep 3-0.
Well done to all involved and we would like to congratulate all of our Wellington under 19′s!
The Wellington athletes involved were Ella Notman, Danielle Paul, Saravinder Pannu, Tamsin Fitzgerald, Marah Neal, Liam Haberfield, Isaac Jones, Jonathan Jackson and Matt Richardson.
Watch this space for more information on what will be happening next for both U19s and U23s – exciting times ahead for both age groups!!
