Ultimate clubs in Wellington
If you want to play ultimate, there's nothing stopping you from starting your own team and entering the leagues. But for those times when you can't find six sports-crazy friends for your new team, it helps to know what organisations there are out there already.
So, here is our short guide to clubs in Wellington...
Creature
Creature is one of the larger ultimate clubs in the country. They occasionally win leagues, but focus on good spirit, and will find anyone a team regardless of athleticism, experience, or sportiness. Creature will usually send a team or two to each indoor tournament, and to the local outdoor social tournaments. They have BBQs and parties as well as regular social practices. Victoria University Flying Disc Club
Victoria University is the main university in Wellington, and it has a flying disc club. They have weekly games indoors, and there are a few tournaments aimed at uni students. View their website.
The Crew
The Crew got off the ground in 2003 and has blossomed into a diverse club with several teams competing in Wellington throughout the year. Our primary focus is to provide a welcoming and encouraging environment for for people to play ultimate at any level. Our aims include:
- encouraging people to start playing ultimate
- getting players excited about ultimate
- training and coaching players who ask for help
- making sure players always feel welcomed, wanted, and valued
- making sure players always have a team to play for in local leagues and national events
- providing a fun and social network of players
- competing at the highest levels (Wellington A grade leagues and tournaments).
Anyone is welcome to play for The Crew. We have teams in all grades and cater for everyone from total beginners to superstar veterans.
The Crew runs trainings on a regular basis (indoors in the winter and outdoors in the summer).
