Award Nominee Bio

  Best New Female

Penny Joblin Penny started playing in 2010 and is already playing A grade. She's a natural with the disc.

Best New Male

Benjamin Wilson Benjamin 'Danger' Wilson was one of those players that was pushed and pushed by his friends to play until he finally did, and LOVED it. Ben's success seems to come from his unique ability to combine his free running skills with a dog like mentality that every disc is his and can often be seen performing acrobatic feats on the field in the pursit of the disc, even when it is well out of bounds or gone miles out the back of the end zone, it matters not! He has worked hard to improve his throwing and he has a solid basic pass as well as a few more solid crazier throws.

Most Improved

James Nicholas James started off in B Grade and has migrated into the A Grade league in the past 12 months. This guy is tall, has great awareness and has remarkably improved his patience and throwing skills. He is always willing to learn from others and seeks out advice from more experience players than him. The only shame is this guy did not start playing the game much earlier! He is also a great and positive guy to have on your team. James has shown an incredible lust to learn the game and improve his ability to play. An all rounds all star in the making, and a nice guy to boot. We need more of him in Ultimate.

Most Spirited

Richard Carr

Plays competitively but is still able to keep up the spirit of the game.

Best Administrator

Cedric Horner Ced does a great job behind the sceens for WDS. He co-organises Crew, which enters teams in every league and tournament. He is in charge of the WDS schools programme, developing and promoting ultimate in schools. He has been the tournament director for all the tournaments WDS has held this year. He organises and coaches the Wellington High School frisbee team. He is vice-president of the WDS Exec, providing the other Exec members with support when needed. There is no doubt that without Cedric frisbee in Wellington would look very different.

Club of the Year

VUWFDC They are actively recruiting and training new players. In the past year, they have placed 1st at Indoor Nationals, along with 2nd and 5th in the B grade division. 10 Vic members represented Wgtn at the WUCC last year, along with 6 members representing NZ as part of the U23 open team in Australia this year. Mixed Nationals also showed the result of the training and hard work that VUWFDC puts in, by placing 5th with a team that lacked a lot of their more experienced players. They also have an active presence in all the leagues and tournaments, catering to all levels of skill and experience.
They tick more boxes than most; successful elite player development, winning stuff, well organised, participation in all events, club culture.

Best Female

Nobby/Nobuku Mori

She's awesome. She lays-out without hesitation and catches the disc too. She can throw long and short, and is very good at finding the open space on the field. She can also be a great teacher. All-round an incredibly strong player.
Nobby has been playing ultimate for 7 years. Her first world was in Vancouver World championship in 2008, then the Club champs last year.  She's achieved lots of '2nd' places with Oceans & SPY and few winnings as far as I remember for indoor & outdoor nationals.

Best Male

Tom Young He is competitive in A-grade, but he is also a super asset in his B-grade team. His skills are awesome, and he is great at using them to get everyone on the team playing better.
